Nikon vs. Canon

Rich Beckermeyer May 12, 2014

So many times I hear people ask, "What gear do you use?" What they are really asking is if I am a Canonite or Nikonian. I look at my gear as tools. And currently I shoot with a variety of tools, some of which you can see above. It depends on the look I'm going for. A polaroid will have a completely different look from an SLR. A TLR 6x6 square on film will look very different from a DSLR. My dad's Minolta will feel very different than a Holga. A studio portrait will look very different than street photography. Stories shouldn't be limited to one medium, one format, one method. A story can take on different facets that amount to a larger whole.

If you're shooting on your DSLR and you've only shot within that format, consider stepping out of your comfort zone and developing a knack for a historic photographic process like cyanotype or tintype. My next photographic goal: copperplate photogravure.
