2014 CIM: Kathy Schieno's first marathon

Rich Beckermeyer April 22, 2015

Several records broke, many legs shook and few bodies went unbruised by the end of the 2014 California International Marathon. About 15,000 participated in the Sacramento Running Association sponsored event and 50,000 cheered runners on along the downhill course.

For Kathy Schieno December 7, 2014, was a day of firsts.  She ran her first marathon.

Using the Nike+ plan to increase mileage and endurance over the six months leading up to the CIM, Kathy was able to keep her pace near 8:30 a mile to finish the race in 3:45, a personal record.

Standing a block away from the capital building under a Mylar emergency blanket Kathy con, “It was a rough year, I wanted to finish it off strong.”

Kathy now waits to see if her official time qualifies her for the Boston Marathon. Entry into the Boston Marathon is dependent on age bracket and finish time.
