2014 CIM: Kathy Schieno's first marathon

Rich Beckermeyer April 22, 2015

Several records broke, many legs shook and few bodies went unbruised by the end of the 2014 California International Marathon. About 15,000 participated in the Sacramento Running Association sponsored event and 50,000 cheered runners on along the downhill course.

For Kathy Schieno December 7, 2014, was a day of firsts.  She ran her first marathon.

Using the Nike+ plan to increase mileage and endurance over the six months leading up to the CIM, Kathy was able to keep her pace near 8:30 a mile to finish the race in 3:45, a personal record.

Standing a block away from the capital building under a Mylar emergency blanket Kathy con, β€œIt was a rough year, I wanted to finish it off strong.”

Kathy now waits to see if her official time qualifies her for the Boston Marathon. Entry into the Boston Marathon is dependent on age bracket and finish time.

Train and Eat, Don't Exercise and Diet

Rich Beckermeyer November 17, 2014

Is it that simple? Does changing the language a person uses to describe how they are approach health really improve the mind set of all involved? I took it upon myself to ask a few people I know these questions.

What they told me that matters most is the doing, the daily grind toward a more healthy self. Set yourself up for success by drinking water, getting enough sleep and doing at least 45 minutes of cardio daily.

I like to hike. You might like to bike or row or play tennis. Whatever it is, be active and you will see results over the long term. Just stick with it.

Free Health Clinics

Rich Beckermeyer October 8, 2014

I had the opportunity to shoot a lot of interviews recently for a free health clinic in Lakeport, Calif. If you are a medical, dental or optical professional, consider giving back through your time and services through AMEN on their international and local clinics.
